Laurie Metcalf has signed on to appear with Nathan Lane in David Mamet's new play November, according to a report in The New York Times. The play, directed by Joe Mantello, will begin previews on December 20, at the Barrymore Theatre, with the opening set for January 17. Three cast members are still to be announced.
For Metcalf, this will be her second appearance on Broadway. She was in My Thing of Love. But, she has been in a number of Off-Broadway shows including Balm in Gilead, a Circle Rep. production, for which she won Theatre World and Drama Desk Awards, as well as Educating Rita and Bodies, Rest and Motion. She is also a member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company. She's probably most famous for her Emmy Award winning(three) work on Roseanne. And this year, she's been nominated for an Emmy as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance on Desperate Housewives.
As for Mamet, his Broadway plays include American Buffalo, the Pulitzer Prize- winning Glengarry Glen Ross, Speed-the-Plow and The Old Neighborhood. A Waitress in Yellowstone, his new musical will go on at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles in May 2008.
Lane was on Broadway last season in Butley. Other shows on his resume include his Tony Award-winning performances in The Producers and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He's also been in Present Laughter, Love! Valour! Compassion!, The Odd Couple, Frogs, Do Re Mi, and Guys and Dolls.
