On April 23 at New York's Algonquin Hotel, two recent Broadway Tony winners will announce nominees for prizes that celebrate Broadway and off: the Outer Critics Circle Awards.
John Lloyd Young, a Tony and OCC winner for playing Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys, will join Victoria Clark, also a dual honoree (for The Light in the Piazza), in reading the nominations that Monday morning. Winners will be announced May 14, and the 57th annual Outer Critics Circle Awards ceremony will be held May 24th at Sardi's Restaurant in the theater district.
Members of the OCC are critics and journalists who cover New York theater for TV, radio, magazines and newspapers that reach outside of Manhattan. For the major awards, Broadway and off-Broadway are split into separate categories; hence last year's winners: The History Boys and Jersey Boys (Broadway play and musical) and Stuff Happens and the Playwrights Horizons mounting of Grey Gardens (off-Broadway play and musical). The other categories mix both Broadway and off, a la The Drama Desk Awards.
