Menzel and Groban to star in Chess concert on PBS on June 17

The Chess concert which took place in May of last year at Royal Albert Hall will make it to the tiny screen this June 17. It will be shown on PBS and a free screening of the telecast will also take place that evening at the Laurie Beechman Theatre at the West Bank Cafe.

Chess, the musical by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, with lyrics and book by Tim Rice, has had a checkered past to say the least. While the musical aspects of the tuner have won raves over the years, the plot, revolving around a World Chess Championship and a romantic triangle with the woman who loves both (of them), has never seemed right. Hence, concert versions have seemed the way to go.

This concert stars Idina Menzel, Josh Groban, Kerry Ellis, Adam Pascal, David Bedella, Marti Pellow and Clarke Peters. Good news for fans: A CD and DVD of the concert will be available in June.
