  2006 Broadway Bares Event

Some Broadway traditions, like the gypsy robe and landmarking theaters, are profound and historic. Others are just down and dirty - but can be for a good cause.

That's the case with the ever-popular Broadway Bares, a party of burlesque and strip-tease, featuring dance and chorus talent, and the occasional Broadway star. Taking its cue from the annual Easter Bonnet and Gypsy of the Year events, Broadway Bares raises money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Broadway Bares XVII, subtitled "Myth Behavior," will have as its theme Zeus, Medusa, Cupid and other heavenly bodies. The fun happens twice at Roseland Ballroom on June 17; there's a 9:30 early show, and an even-more-outrageous midnight show. Directing the de-clothing for the third straight year is Denis Jones, with Spamalot's Christopher Sieber  emceeing.

The first Broadway Bares, in 1991, raised $8,000 for BC/EFA. Last year's tally topped $650,000. Guest stars for the 2006 BB included Alan Cumming, Jenn Colella and Sandra Bernhard.
