West Side Story will be returning to Broadway next year, opening at the Palace on March 19. Previews will commence on February 23.

The revival of the iconic musical which features music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim will be directed by another icon, Arthur Laurents, the show's librettist. The original Jerome Robbins choreography will be restaged by Joey McKneely. The musical will play Washington D.C.'s National Theatre from December 16-January 17. The cast and creative team will be named in the not-too- distant future.

The original Broadway production of West Side Story opened at the Winter Garden on September 26, 1957. It closed on June 29, 1959 after 734 performances. The cast included Carol Lawrence, Larry Kert and Chita Rivera, along with Mickey Calin and Ken LeRoy, among others. The show was directed by Jerome Robbins. The musical reopened at the Winter Garden on April 27, 1960 and closed on December 10, 1960, after 249 performances.
