Will it be hello Hilton, bye bye St. James? That is, indeed, the question surrounding where Mel Brooks' new musical Young Frankenstein will play. For months, it appeared as natural as blueberry pie that Young Frank would follow The Producers into the St. James...good karma and all that.

But, the Hilton's current occupant, The Pirate Queen, to put it kindly, didn't exactly get good reviews when it opened recently. Last week, in fact, the show dipped under $700,000 in gross, a drop of $64,000 from the previous one. And when it goes below a certain amount, a theater owner can opt to evict it.

Would the producers of Frank want to disrupt the good vibes at the St. James? Well, there's always the...profit motive. The Hilton has more seats than the St. James. Hence, more money to be made. And it also has a bigger stage area as an added bonus.

But, let us not consign The Pirate Queen to the dustbin of theatrical history...yet. There'll be plenty of time to measure those stage curtains, if and when the Hilton becomes available in the not too distant future.
