THE SEAGULL
at the Walter Kerr

MORE THAN JUST A BLOODY BIRD
By ROGER B. HARRIS
Published July 1 2008

Kristin Scott Thomas as Arkadina in The Seagull/(ph Johan Persson)

The Seagull, which beguiled London audiences when it played at the Royal Court Theatre, is headed for Broadway. It'll play at the Walter Kerr Theatre, starting on September 16, with an opening on October 1. It will be directed by Ian Rickson. Christopher Hampton will provide a new translation of the Anton Chekhov masterpiece.

Reprising her Olivier Award-winning performance as Arkadina will be Kristin Scott Thomas. The stage and film star is no stranger to Chekhov. She appeared as Masha in The Three Sisters a few years back at The Playhouse in the West End. Joining her in the cast will be Peter Sarsgaard as Trigorin and Zoe Kazan as Masha. Cast members who will be reprising their London roles include Art Malik as Dorn, Mackenzie Crook as Konstantin, Carey Mulligan as Nina and Peter Wight as Sorin, among others.

Hildegard Bechler will design the show, Peter Mumford will handle lighting, Ian Dickinson will do the sound and Stephen Warbeck will provide original music.
