at American Airlines Theatre

By Roger B. Harris

  Harriet Harris

Colin, Harris, and Rabe. No, it's not a law firm, but Margaret Colin, Harriet Harris, and Lily Rabe. And they're set to star in the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of John Van Druten's comedy Old Acquaintance at the American Airlines Theatre, from June 1 thru August 19, with an opening set for June 28. Michael Wilson will be in charge of the proceedings. Further casting will be announced in the near future.

The play had its original premiere at the late-lamented Morosco Theatre in 1940. It starred Jane Cowl and Peggy Wood. The 1943 srceen version starred Bette Davis and Miriam( I always read the Hearst papers') Hopkins. In 1981, Rich and Famous, a film loosely patterned on the play saw the light of day. It starred outstanding beauties Candice Bergen and Jacqueline Bissett, who were definitely worth the price of the popcorn, and was directed by George Cukor.

Ms. Colin has starred on Broadway in Jackie: An American Life and A Day in the Life of Joe Egg. Ms. Harris won a Tony Award for her scene-stealing performance in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Ms. Rabe has been in Heartbreak House and Steel Magnolias. Mr. Van Druten's other plays included The Voice of the Turtle, I Remember Mama, and most famously, I Am a Camera( Cabaret was based on this play and Christopher Isherwood's stories).
