First, there was Vanessa on Broadway; now, there is Lynn, off-Broadway. Translation: Lynn Redgrave will take the title role in MCC's production of Grace, heading into the Lucille Lortel Theatre, January 23- March 8. Aside from Ms. Redgrave, no cast or creative team members have been announced. (Of course, we were alluding to Vanessa's turn in The Year of Magical Thinking, now at the Booth).
Ms. Redgrave will play a noted scientist and confirmed atheist, who turns away from her son when he plans to become a man of the cloth. The show premiered in London.
Redgrave is no stranger to the New York theater scene. She received Tony Award nominations for her efforts in The Constant Wife, Shakespeare for My Father and Mrs. Warren's Profession. She won Obie and Drama Desk Awards for her performance in Talking Heads. And she won Oscar nominations for Georgy Girl and God's and Monsters. Most recently, she performed her one-person play, Nightingale, at the Hartford Stage. It's based on the life of her maternal grandmother.
